D’Ponte’s story extends far into Pietermaritzburg’s rich history.
At the fresh age of 18 Dan started his first little shop called Polana. He sold fruit, veg, groceries and … you guessed it… Fish and Chips!!
Little did Dan know that Polana was to be his first but not the last fish and chips shop.
Dan married his wife Zelda in 1984, and together they set their eyes on bigger fish to fry.
By 1991 Dan had found the ideally situated shop, the one he would remain in to this day.
Just a year later he opened Pietermaritzburg’s very first Skipper’s.
By means of hard work and perseverance Dan’s enterprise flourished and by 2003 they were expanding and adding a new restaurant area.
“Take a seat, or take away”, soon they were well known in Pietermaritzburg and have prided themselves with serving the community for 24 years!!
Proven to be a timeless favorite, come and enjoy the legendary taste of traditional Fish and Chips at d’Ponte’s. New name, new look yet the same consistent quality and friendly service our loyal customer base has come to expect.
